Darlene married Tommy Love. Tommy's grandfather, John Thomas Love, was a member of the New Brunswick Regiment and the 26th Regiment, known as the Fighting 26th, in Saint John, NB. John Thomas Love died at the Battle of the Somme in 1916 from bullet wounds. He was a sergeant but asked to be made a private again to be closer to the men. He lost most of his friends in battle and then, his own life.

JOHN THOMAS LOVE WAS SARGENT, BUT ASKED TO BE MADE PRIVATE SO HE COULD FIGHT WITH HIS FRIENDS, MOST OF WHOM WERE KILLED.
The Army, as senior service, received the most recruits and its major provincial element, the 26th Battalion, was formed with contributions from around New Brunswick. As part of the 2ndCanadian Division, the 'Fighting 26TH" earned its battle honours and scars in all the major conflicts involving the Canadian Corps from the Somme to Vimy to Canal du Nord.




The Loves were a New Brunswick family based in Saint John who periodically went to Boston to work. John Thomas was born in Boston, in 1875. When his mother, Minnie died in Saint John, the family was put under the care
of the father, William Crawford Love and his sister, Elizabeth Love- the children's Aunt Bessie.
