Gordon was brought up by his Aunt Tilly(Moore)Dimock. The Dimock's, Tilly, Herb and son David lived in Kingston for many years. David was famous for blowing bubbles from the pilot's window on the ferry. He lost his life in a house fire.

Oh, so much love.
This is Rachel, Gordon's first grand-child, and they were very close til the day he died! We lived with him until she was about 3 and after he was no longer able to work because of his heart problems he baby-sat her after school while she was in elementary school.
He enrolled her in highland dance lessons when she was 4, so Tuesday afternoons were their time. He took her to dance class and they always went to dinner after.
One time, when Rachel was about 6, I took her to a restaurant I had never been to. The waitress came over and asked Rachel if she wanted "her usual". Sandra Lawton

Russell Lawton

Phoebe Lawton and Christopher Wager Cosman Grama Phoebe was a tiny woman, 4'11", with long hair rolled up in a huge topknot. She had a hard life on that farm out the muddy Old Black River Road with her 11 hungry children. She never complained when I knew her, but went about her gardening and her life in her private way. Grama noted all the accidents that befell those on the farm and she listed the relatives she remembered. She mentions Josiah Wood, Lieut. Gov. NB as a cousin, but my research shows his father direct from England, rather than a descendant of the Wood family of PEI who came from Essex but were in PEI for generations. However, Phoebe owned him as a cousin and maybe she knew of a link.

The Old Black River Road in the 1920's,30's and 40's was a narrow muddy track, almost impassable in spring. It branched off to the left from Bayside Drive on the Courtenay Bay, a harbour on the Bay of Fundy, at Redhead corner, and led, just a little inland from the bay, all the way through to Black River, and on out to Saint Martins. On the way, this ever narrowing wagon trail led past Mispec Stream where we swam as kids, Beaver lake with its old fishing club lodge, Brandy brook and Grassy Lake, where people went to pick berries, to fish and hunt, to get lost, to commit murders and suicide, and on past the remote farm of the Guillet family and to the magnificent beach at Back River.
At Brandy Brook, near Enchanted lake, lived the Brandy Brook Hermit, Oscar Craig, known to most people as Oscar Wilde. He actually lived at times in a cave at Mispec Stream and would harness himself to a cart to pull his kindling wood to town for sale, a distance of about 15 miles.Coming and going, he would sleep the night in Frank and Phoebe Lawton's barn. A farmer out the road by Beaver lake beat Oscar up and he died.
Oscar's brother, Bob Craig, visited at times and he was seen once in a odd occupation. He had fitted up a wagon wheel with chains and suspended it from a tree so he could direct the motions of the stars. In the 1901 Saint John Census there is a Robert Craig born in 1852 to a family in Saint John, possibly Oscar's parents.
The following clipping is from the memories of Harrison MacElwaine, a printing-pressman born in Saint John in 1902.

Oscar Craig, Hermit of Brandy Brook and Mispec Stream, who slept in Frank and Phoebe Lawton's barn on his way to and from town.
