Cecil Lawton, son of Francis and Phoebe (Wood) Lawton was born on the Old Black River Road in .... He married Marion Moore and had three children, two girls, Marion and Thelma, who died as infants, and a boy, Gordon. Gordon was brought up in Saint John by Moore aunts when his parents separated. Cecil had a problem with alcohol from a young age and was treated as the black sheep of the family. He used to return to Saint John from Halifax, where he lived, from time to time, to ask the family for money. I remember him as a thin, dark man in a hat. My dad, Eddie, Cecil's half-brother, was kind to Cecil and felt sorry for the hard life he led.

NEW INFO

Cecil and Marion had a girl in 1934, Dorothy May Lawton, given out to foster parents, Mr and Mrs John A Graham, who lived at 20 Blossom Street, Arlington, MA. Dorothy had brown hair, fair skin and blue eyes. At 10 years old she is going by ferry boat to Maine with her foster mother, Mrs graham and is met by her foster father, Mr Graham.

The following is the life of Gordon Lawton, Cecil's son.

Gordon was the only surviving child of Cecil Lawton and Marion Moore. ( but Dorothy may be living ) His sisters, Marion Thelma, and Eleanor Mae died as an infants. Gordon soon became an almost orphan as his parents separated. He was brought up by his mother's sisters. Because Gordon was legally blind ( eye muscle disease) he attended the boarding school, The Halifax School for the Blind. So he was without family support close at hand.

Gordon grew into a handsome man, strongly built and a look-a-like for some of his Lawton cousins, John and Gordon, sons of Arthur Lawton. He married and brought up a family of daughters in Saint John. Gordon loved the bag-pipes and belonged to a pipe band in Saint John. Gordon died young.

Daughter, Sandra and grand-daughter, Rachel.

Cecil was often considered the black sheep of the family as he had a drinking problem, but my Dad always cared about him and in light of his hardships with having to give up one daughter and having two baby daughters die and having his son suffer from blindness.....I feel Cecil certainly had his share of woes. I still remember him as a dark little man in a hat.
