AUDREY HAZEL LACKIE-CYR
Audrey became the older sister when her big sister Marjorie died at age 6 of pneumonia. She was held responsible for looking after the twins , Muriel and Marion, when they came along. Audrey always regretted that she had to leave school early to help out at home. Audrey always had a light in her face. Her gaze was steady, piercing, with a " I know better that you" certainty. Her head was always tilted a little, in a judgemental stance, her surety of power and position uppermost. The light gave her away, however; the light of an artistic longing to be herself, to achieve, and be free.
Audrey farmed in Willow Grove with her parents, Emma and Bert lackie and husband, Tommy Cyr. She named her house, "Halfway House", as it was halfway between Saint John and Saint Martins. Audrey brought up her 3 kids and one of Marion's. Two of her children are dead now, and one, no-one knows where. Marion's boy lives in the old neighbourhood. Audrey became a Registered Nursing Assistant later in life but had to give it up to care for her mother and her husband. Audrey, the independant and defiant lover of work and freedom is now helpless in
a nursing home. The Valiant .... suffer.
