"EVENING TIMES GLOBE, July 3, Monday, 1939.
At her residence, Little river, St. John Co., on June 29, 1939, C. W. Cosman, leaving his wife, one son and one daughter. Funeral service was held Head of Millstream, Kings Co."
Note.....Notice the words, Christopher died at " her" residence. One of the Lawton boys made sure to point it out that it was nor" his" that is, Christopher's residence, even though he had resided there for 20 years, ran the farm, and kept them all from starving to death, and was Phoebe's recognized husband.
Funeral and burial took place at head of Millstream where Chris grew up and where his parents are buried. The church has no records, being Baptist, and Chris's name is not on the stone, as there was probably no one willing or able to pay for that.
My dad, Edward Christopher Lawton was the son referred to in the newspaper and the daughter, who is supposed to have married a William Kay, must have been still living. No official record has been found, but Cosman sites state that Christopher was married to a Sarah Jamieson and had a son and a daughter about 1885. That son must have died before before 1939. The Jamieson's were from Kings Co. but may have removed to New England.
Note: Christopher's first family has been found on 1891 cencus.

The residence or farm where Chris died was on the Old Black River Road. Little River was the mailing address. The post office was probably there, on Bayside Drive, by the ocean.

Eddie and Darlene.
Grama Phoebe was a tiny woman, 4'11", with long hair rolled up in a huge topknot. She had a hard life on that farm out the muddy Old Black River Road with her 11 hungry children. She never complained when I knew her, but went about her gardening and her life in her private way. The following list was printed from a large scrapbook sheet on which Grama noted all the accidents that befell those on the farm and in which she listed the relatives she remembered. She mentions Josiah Wood, Lieut. Gov. NB as a cousin, but my research shows his father direct from England, rather than a descendant of the Wood family of PEI who came from Essex but were in PEI for generations. However, Phoebe owned him as a cousin and maybe she knew of a link.
