Frances Lawton and New Brunswick Probate Records
Can someone help me? I am trying to investiage the Eager Family in St. John's New Brunswick. I have from EArly probate records by R. Wallace Hale, p. 254, that a Robert Eggar was a witness to the will of Frances Lawton in the city of St. John in 1818.......I am wondering who this Frances is and connection to this Robert??????? Diane Eager

Frances Lawton was wife of Thomas Lawton, Loyalist. Thomas was the son of Issac Lawton, Loyalist. They were important men in early Saint John. Robert Eggar may have been someone who worked for them, or a neighbour...hard to say.

witness Frances Lawton will

Here are the signatures of witnesses on Frances Lawton`s will, signed in 1818 in Saint John....looks like Robt Eggar

I found a Robert Eggar who was born about 1797 and married Emily Cameron in Fredericton, NB, 11 April, 1826.

A John Eggar was a painter living on Northumberland St, Fredericton, in 1871...may be a son.

I also found this
EGGAR: Robert Eggar b. 1786, married 5 Apr 1826 Emma Cameron born 1803, second d/o Stephen Cameron: they settled in Fredericton, York County: only child mentioned was, John H. Eggar born 1827, d. 17 Jun 1892, married Isabel Cameron b. 1828, d. 6 Feb 1901. Source: MC80/2334 Isabel L. Hill’s The old burying ground Fredericton, NB, Vol.

If this is the ROBERT EGGAR that signed the will, he may have lived in Saint John in 1818 and later moved to Fredericton.
