" Lord have mercy on all the poor and miserable sinners who live on THE OLD BLACK RIVER ROAD" Eddie Lawton

Otherwise known as Beaver Lake Road, the Old Black River Road was a wind-swept, raw and rough, near-ocean paradise for kids by the dozen. It was my home. I loved it so deeply that I didn't know it, and loathed it with all my might for it's lonely desolation; a desolation born of poverty and neglect, where kids were never taken anywhere or to anything. Left to their own devices in the wide open scrub lands of field, bog, brook, sky, dirt and fog, kids became incredible people- great workers, loyal friends, honest citizens, playful souls and children forever.

Located 5.71 km NNW of Mispec: St. John County: in 1866 Black River Road was a farming community with about 18 families: also called Little River Road: Black River Road is now within the city of Saint John.
