Bateman, John H. - - Shediac Shediac Carriagemaker

This entry was in the 1871 Directory.
John Harrington Bateman and his son, John A were both carriage makers

Bateman, John A. - Smith's Shediac Westmorland Carriagemaker

According to Tim Isaac, John H Bateman married a daughter of William Graves Lawton, but he had only one daughter, Annie, born 1855. Annie was
35 years younger than John H Bateman....so did she marry an older man or maybe his son, John A.

The pair silhouettes are from a local collector of early NB artifacts.Inscribed, "Grandfather Lawton of Wakefield, England, circa 1823, with 13 year old Master Hubard's guarantee of authenticity.Grandfather Lawton's daughter married cabinetmaker John Bateman(1820-1874) of Shediac, NB.In the mid 1980's we sold the Bateman estate by auction. Hope this helps.
