John Munroe was buried at Fernhill Cemetery.
Check out #8 on www.Fernhillcemetery.ca/fernhill/tour_map.jsp for a write up of his obit.

black river road is toward St Martins way and Old Black River Road is the road we grew up on. I believe there is a black river area up in northern NB. also. Some where near the Miramichi.

Hello
I can tell you that in the late 1980's I lived in Garnett Settlement just out past SJ airport.
Once you turn right at Ben lomond corner toward St Martins (RTE 111) the first dirt rd on your left is Quaco Rd.
A few hundred feet further along 111 to the right turns off to RTE 825 (if i remember the number correctly)..this is what is what was called black river rd back in 1869.
Today once you get on 825 just on your left there is a government garage whoms parking lot actually joins the 825 back over to 111.
3 or 4 miles up this 825 will bring you to Garnett Settlement. when i lived there i would travel to saint john and i always notice that coming down the 825 toward ben lomond corner just before the government garage on the right hand side there was a ribbon in the woods tied to a bush or tree about 30 or 40 feet off the rd..
i seen this many times..after 1 year or so I got to know some of the people who where my new neibhours....One night this fellow (Garnett) who I knew that lived out there all his life...like many generations of his family ..
he asked me if I ever noticed the ribbon on the way to town tied in the woods...of course i said yes...he then started to tell me that if i where to take the ribbon down that a short time later it would reappear...no matter when i did it...

Continued............................
he said the ribbon was there from an old murder...he started to tell me of a woman and a baby being murdered...told me about the man from saint john who brought them out here and murdered them.in the mid 1800's..i was young then and did not remember the names he told me...but later i found out he was talking about sarah vail and her baby....i dont know if ribbon is there today or not...it was there apparently for over 100 yrs....I never took it down to see if it would of been replaced...but legend has that it will.
Go to 825 and head toward Garnett Sett.not to far past government garage on your left look for
a light colored faded ribbon tied to bush..
The residents have marked this spot all thier lives.
Just thought id share this.

"Yes, all correct."
Now I remember that when I was a child I was told that if you were able to continue on Old Black River Road to the end, that it would take you to St. Martins. Of course, by that time the road petered off to a trail that was all grown over with trees and bush.

The 5th post on this website page "The Sad Tale of Maggie Vail" located here

http://www.canadaka.net/forums/atlantic-canada-f35/the-phantom-ship-of-chaleur-bay-t12945.html

Speaks about

"It is said that for many years after the murder, a white handkerchief was tied to a tree to mark the spot of the crime and horses would shy away from the lonely flat when passing by through the woods."

To me it looked like more like a ribbon.
Route 825 will actually you take right past the turn off to the black river wharf..about 10 miles up 825 on the right.which is where Black River starts. This is where the old black river rd comes out to..
Once you turn off on that rd (forgot the name) about a half mile down it on the left you can turn down to the wharf..but if you continue straight through about another half mile you will come to the black river and the bridge has been washed out for quite a few years now ....this is old black river rd...

After doing a little digging, I found out that the coachman who took Munroe to Black River Road, Robert Worden, was 3rd cousin to my great grandfather, Gabriel Worden. Do you find this valuable?
